31st NERPS Webinar: From the Peace Agreement to Constitution Making: Nepal’s Journey to Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

March 14, 2024 (Thursday, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM JST)

About the Webinar

Since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between the Maoist rebels and the then government in November 2006, Nepal has come to a long way with its significant achievements in stabilizing large-scale violence, writing a new constitution, arranging a new governance system, and building new institutions to address the pressing socio-economic, political, and ecological problems confronted by the Nepalese society. Yet, how effective and viable those institutions are to tackle the emerging challenges of the country remains a critical concern at present. Based on my ongoing study on Nepal’s federal governance challenges and opportunities, my talk aims to provide some critical perspectives on the current state of peace, justice and strong institutions and their viability as well as contributions to strengthen sustainability in the country.
