NERPS 2027 Conference in Jakarta

The Network for Education and Research on Peace and Sustainability (NERPS) at Hiroshima University and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) will jointly host the 6th NERPS conference on March 17–20, 2027 at BRIN Science Techno Park in Jakarta, Indonesia. Ten years since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, progress has been made in terms of access to education, access to electricity, infrastructure, internet, poverty eradication, malaria prevention, and biodiversity protection, among other targets. However, almost half of the targets are making moderate progress, with 35% having stalled or regressed. Millions of children are affected by malnutrition, socio-economic inequalities persist, global greenhouse gas emissions reached a record high in 2023, and conflict-related deaths have increased. With five years left until the 2030 target, this combination of improvements and deteriorations demands a reappraisal of the Sustainable Development Goals. Preceding the launch of the Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) in September 2027, the NERPS 2027 Conference aims to bridge scholarly literature and policy lessons to contribute to transdisciplinary insights for accelerating the attainment of the goals and charting pathways beyond 2030. It also aims to contribute to a series of policy dialogues that would lead to getting peace mainstreamed into the next set of United Nations development goals, which are expected to be formulated by 2030. To achieve these objectives, the NERPS 2027 Conference offers a platform for students, researchers, and practitioners to present their work, exchange ideas, and forge partnerships towards a more peaceful and sustainable world.
