About the Lecture
Dr. Fisher will discuss strategies for understanding and managing environmental conflicts that are being published in a new book by Columbia University Press. Dr. Fisher and his research team adapted methods and approaches from multiple disciplines to design a framework for that assists stakeholders respond to environmental change. The framework leverages the self-reinforcing dynamics of collaborative action to enable natural resource managers and stakeholders from government, civil society, non-governmental organizations, and private sector actors to constructively engage in conflict management that enables more effective natural resource stewardship.
The lecture will introduce students to concepts and principles from the academic disciplines of ecology, public policy, and natural resource management that have been synthesized into the Collaborative Environmental Conflict Management framework. In addition, Dr. Fisher will provide illustrative examples of how to apply this tool and share insights learned from practical applications.
