
We are pleased to announce that Rumiko Seya, President of Reach Alternatives (REALs), will be the second keynote speaker at the NERPS 2026 Conference at the United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo, Japan.
Rumiko Seya leads initiatives in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and humanitarian assistance across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

She holds an MA in Conflict Resolution from the University of Bradford, UK, and has previously worked with UN peacekeeping missions, embassies and ministries of foreign affairs, and NGOs in countries such as Rwanda, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, and Côte d’Ivoire. She specializes in conflict prevention and peacebuilding, with a particular focus on Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) of ex-combatants; Conflict Early Warning and Early Response; Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE); and gender, including Women, Peace, and Security (WPS). She has been a member of the Evaluation Committee for Japan’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security since 2017.
Rumiko Seya’s honors and awards include the UN21 Award (United Nations, 2003), Nikkei Woman of the Year (Japan, 2012), International Leaders Programme (UK, 2015), The New York Times feature “Ten Women Leaving Their Marks on the World” (2022), FRaU SDGs Award (2023), and the Yomiuri International Cooperation Prize (2025).
Her work and career have also been featured in Japanese high school textbooks for both English and Japanese language education.
