H.E. Commissioner Prof. Dr. Alvin Culaba is the Second Keynote Speaker for the NERPS 2025 Conference

We are delighted to announce that H.E. Commissioner Prof. Dr. Alvin Culaba, Commissioner on Science and Technology at the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, will be one of the keynote speakers for the NERPS 2025 Conference at De La Salle University (DLSU) in Manila, Philippines from March 5-7, 2025.

Prof. Dr. Alvin B. Culaba is a distinguished Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering at De La Salle University (DLSU), Manila, Philippines. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Portsmouth, UK, and has completed post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Sussex (UK), the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Italy), and the University of Portsmouth (UK).

Dr. Culaba is renowned for his pioneering work in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. His research encompasses mechanical engineering, design engineering, and mechanical processes, with applications in energy-environment interactions, cleaner production technology, energy technology and management, alternative energy, environmental management systems, manufacturing and environmental systems engineering, and renewable energy systems.

In 2006, he established the Philippine LCA Clearinghouse (PhilCA) at DLSU-Manila, linking the country to the international LCA network and serving as a center for LCA research. Dr. Culaba has significantly contributed to academia by establishing the first and only PhD in Mechanical Engineering program in the Philippines. He has also conducted extensive training in research and education across various engineering schools nationwide.

On October 3, 2024, he was appointed Commissioner on Science and Technology at the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, promoting international collaboration in education, science, culture, communication, and information.

Throughout his career, Dr. Culaba has published numerous research papers, contributing significantly to the fields of mechanical engineering and environmental science. 
