15th NERPS Webinar: United Nations 75th Anniversary Declaration, “Our Common Agenda”, and the SDGs

3 February 2022 (Thursday 4:00-5:00 PM JST)

About the Webinar

The United Nations commemorated its 75th Anniversary in 2020. World leaders celebrated the milestone and generated renewed support for multilateralism. This was reflected in the Declaration on the Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations that was adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2020. Responding to the request by Member States to report back with recommendations to advance the contents of this Declaration, the UN Secretary-General carried out extensive consultations with a broad range of actors. He released his report “Our Common Agenda” in September 2021. In this Report, the Secretary-General contrasts two possible futures: a world heading towards breakdown and perpetual crisis, or a more positive outlook based on solidarity and cooperation. Professor Akiko Yuge will talk about the UN 75th Anniversary Declaration and the recommendations in “Our Common Agenda”. She will share her observations on the landmark Declaration and the Report, and how we can move forward to implement the recommendations to deal with our current and future challenges.
